Nowadays, with the increased awareness of environmental issues and sustainability, shopping for vintage clothing is the coolest way to be an ethical shopper . Charity shops are full of vintage, so you can donate while you shop. Moreover, instead of turning to fast fashion that exploits developing countries with cheap labor and landfills, why not buy what has already been made and worn? This is by definition recycling: less waste on the world and a reduced carbon footprint, since fewer resources are used in the sale and production of secondhand items. Fashion is no longer a guilty pleasure, and vintage clothing a necessity. Ethical clothing, for example organic cotton tee shirts, is generally unattractive and hard to get hold of, but it doesn’t have to if you decide to turn to thrift stores to renew your wardrobe. If the second hand aspect does not bother you, vintage clothes allow you to be unique and fashionable without breaking the bank – it is no longer about having the newest designer bag, but about being able to feel proud of a unique find, at a reasonable price and at a better quality. Indeed, past decades used better quality materials and techniques, and in general vintage clothing lasts much longer than cheap items found on the high street. Vintage clothing is also collectable and therefore you should look after them to make sure they do not lose value over time.

Creating a vintage outfit demands a strong sense of style and individuality, as the styling and accessorizing certainly take more efforts than with a predetermined high street ensemble. To avoid London high street’s monotony and the possibility of matching a few other girls at a party, building one’s own vintage collection is a surefire way to turn heads. Whether you shop for it online or in a shop, you will treasure for a vintage piece for a very long time, for its unique aspect and originality makes its yours, and yours only. A fashion forward person is no longer one who buys the newest, most expensive pieces from a big department store, or a designer boutique. The fashionista of today makes an outfit look exciting and interesting by picking out old and new pieces from her closet, and by accessorizing it cleverly. Anyone who knows how to make a old piece look current and modern by customizing it or styling it should turn to vintage to make sure they stand out from the crowd. And this is why a lot of brides turn to vintage for their wedding dress. If you can be bothered to look for hidden treasures, and spend time on it, vintage is the way to go.

Vintage clothing not only stands out for its original cuts and fabrics, it also stands the test of time, if it’s good vintage. Indeed past eras used much better materials and techniques in the production of clothes, and all of this more a fraction of the prices shown in the high street!

Collecting vintage clothes is no longer just shopping – it is a rewarding hobby. Spending hours collecting vintage garments is pleasurable, and the ultimate prize is a hidden treasure that no one else has, a little piece of history and an item that can truly reflect your personal sense of style.

I spend countless hours cruising the streets of London to find small little vintage shops and I have so much fun.

Whether you area of choice is the 50s, the 60s or 90s, you are sure to be inspired by one of a kind pieces in vintage shops, from eras that inspired you in old films for example. Collecting vintage pieces can also be seen as an investment for a future, and could be a good incentive to look after your clothes so they earn more value over the years. If you are looking for a version of a trend that’s in shops right now , you can look in thrift stores too. Since fashion is cyclical, you can be sure that what is in fashion now has been in fashion before, and can be found second-hand. When buying vintage, you have to know what to look for – certain eras and designers, and be careful with the sizing. You may need a tape measure, as sizing has changed greated through the decades. But fashion doesn’t have to be the driving force behind vintage shopping. Firstly, it is known for being ethical, and secondly, it goes further than the fashion trends. You can rely on classic cuts and shapes, that won’t go out of style and choose pieces that flatter your figure.

Vintage is no longer a dirty word – you can spot it on celebrities everywhere, and for many reasons, it is the best way to build an individual style. First, it won’t break your bank – it is no longer about having the latest expensive it-bag, but about wearing that unique piece of clothing no one else has. Each item is like a little piece of history and its unique fabric, texture and cut will make you stand out from the high street. Moreover, most vintage fashions are inexpensive, yet they retain good quality. Often better produced than on the high street, you will find vintage clothes show superior attention to detail. It will make any outfit stand out, with your own individual stamp on it. With a little skill and attention, vintage can be mixed with new finds so that it looks current and modern – the last thing you want is for it to look dated – or worse, costumey. But apart from fashion reasons, you can rely on vintage clothing to have this eco-friendly edge the high street doesn’t. By buying what has been made decades ago, you are contributing to a recycling cycle, and stop encouraging big companies with their landfills and exploited labor. You are contributing to a fairer clothing market, and if you shop at charity shops, you are also donating your money to a good cause.

If you have a formal occasion to attend, shopping for a suitable evening dress to wear is all part of the fun and excitement but it can sometimes be tricky to find exactly the right dress.

What you choose will depend on many things such as the season, your size and age and exactly what the special occasion is. Probably the most important rule when shopping for evening dresses is to take a trusted friend with you, who will be truthful when helping you to choose.

Evening dresses come in many different designs and it is worth trying on several different styles to see what suits you. Empire style gowns have a high waist line and a long flowing skirt. These can help to disguise round tummies and thick waists. If you are not very tall, the empire style will also make you appear taller especially if add a pair of high heels.

The A-line style is fitted at the top flaring out into a long skirt. These types of evening dresses suit most figures but are especially good at hiding wide hips and help to give the illusion of a slender figure. Some evening dresses have long sleeves and these styles may be more suitable for winter occasions. Summery styles are often off-the-shoulder or have halter necks or low backs.

When choosing a dress, consider also the colour and material of the gown. Many gowns are made from silky, diaphanous fabrics, and these are ideal if you have a fuller figure as they will flatter your curves. If you are lucky enough to be slim, you can probably wear any fabric but figure-hugging jersey or wool gowns in particular will flatter your figure and make you the envy of other women.

Plain colours in neutral shades such as cream or black are often chosen for formal wear because they can be accessorised with shawls, scarves, jewellery or belts to give many different looks.

Whatever you choose, wear it with a smile and you will look a million dollars!

I don’t like stores. I really don’t have money to buy stuff in the really expensive stores in the rich part of town where everything is tasteful and organized and the people who work there are actually nice and helpful, but sadly those are probably the only stores where I could stand browsing. Every other store, be it in the mall or off the street, I can’t bother walking in, because I know I’m going to come out frustrated and with a headache. I don’t know if it’s the loud dance music, the way the clothes are packed together like it’s a flea market or the people who shop like they are in one that gets to me; it’s probably a combination of everything. But up until a few years ago, I had no choice but to a few times a year drag myself around a shopping district or a mall and buy some new clothes. But now that’s over.

Because now I shop online. And it feels great. I no longer have to wait in line or put up with other people’s sense of hygiene, or lack thereof. And where else would I find my favorite brands, like Ringspun, for example, at such a low price?

A christening bracelet is a traditional gift which has stood the test of time and remained popular for many years and, unlike other jewellery items, do not seem to be affected detrimentally by changes in fashion or trends.

A christening bracelet or, as it is also known, a baby bracelet (since they are becoming more popular as gifts for babies at non-religious ceremonies such as naming ceremonies as well as just Christenings) is the type of gift which can be given from a very young age but, unlike most gifts for babies, it is not outgrown quickly due to the fact they can be extended to fit the baby as he or she grows. They sometimes have pretty patterns or small stones, such as the child’s birthstone, to give a wide range of choices, and can be given either to girls or boys. The bracelets can also be personalised with an engraving of the baby’s name so make a lovely gift to commemorate the Christening and the beginning of the child’s own identity.

The main reason for the continued popularity of these bracelets is their simplicity; they will never go out of fashion because, as most often they are made of plain silver or gold, they alone do not make a statement but compliment the baby’s own looks and clothes. In fact, sales of christening bracelets have increased in recent years, prompting more designers and high street stores to sell them. The increase in popularity is most likely related to the surge in birth rates, hence more babies for people to buy bracelets for.

The christening bracelet do not show any signs of fading out and will most likely continue to be a popular choice for many years to come, and what nicer gift for the new baby in your family than a treasure like this?

Straightners have become one of the newer crazes in hair styling. There are several types of devices to use, GHD Straightners, being a top brand of the new hair technology.
GHD straightners were created in 2001, launching in Australia in 2002. Today the company brands the motto “you can do anything with your hair.” The motto holds true considering the straightners come in three different models: IV, salon, and mini styler. Each perfect whatever style of hair an individual has, and what type of curl they may be trying to achieve. Want big curls? Opt for the salon styler. Tight curls? Try out the mini styler.

All the straighters made by GHD are black and gold plated. There are however, limited edition GHD straightners that come in designs and colors that will attract the fashion forward buyer. Women and men alike can try out the stylers. Men will enjoy the mini styler, since it’s great for shorter hair. The mini is about $220. It’s well worth the investment if you’re looking for a straightner that can stand the heat.
With all products made by GHD, you’re allowed to register them. This keeps you up to date with information regarding your warranty. Yes, GHD straighteners come with a warranty for an entire year.
Thinking of buying in a new straightner, or haven’t quite decided? Why not just pick up a GHD Straighnter; it’s worth the investment- guaranteed!

Whether it is too flashy, or too modest, it is hard to use the same outfit for multiple occasions. However, there are a few key items in your wardrobe that can be suitable for a variety of scenarios. If worn with the right accessories, you can dress up, or down, just about any outfit. Here are some useful ideas.

We often think that dresses are specific to an occasion. You have your modest dress for a formal event, and a slinky dress for the club. But worn the right way, you can make a dress fit the event. A sun dress for example is simple, with little detail. Using some bold jewelry, and a fun pair of heels can make it hot enough for the club. Worn with a cardigan and matching heels helps you to blend in enough for a formal event, without seeming drab.

Same goes for a great pair of jeans. Dress them up with a blazer, or dress them down with a flashy pair of heels. You can wear jeans to just about any occasion, so investing in the perfect pair is a must.
